Are the Trees, Shrubs, and Flowers in your yard protected by Mass Homeowners Insurance?
Now that spring has sprung, plant life will be coming alive! This is an exciting time of year in New England because of all the beautiful flowers that sprout and trees that bloom.
If you’re a plant person who takes pride in the visual appeal of your yard, I’m sure you know how expensive shrubbery can be. Don’t let it be an unpleasant surprise as to what’s covered under your homeowners insurance policy. When you wake up one morning and you have a hole in your yard and your favorite tree is missing; this isn’t the time to see if you have coverage.
Unless additional coverage is purchased by endorsement, most insurance companies will give coverage of 5% of the amount that your home is insured for, up to $500 per item. Further exclusions may also state that if damage is caused by a vehicle that’s owned by the insured, then the damage will not be covered. If damage to your shrubs is caused by a windstorm, coverage may also not be provided.
