Berry Insurance is a marketing organization providing a full range of insurance and risk management services to over 3,000 individuals and families, and to 500 businesses throughout New England. We have offices in Franklin, Quincy, and Waltham, Massachusetts.
History:
Berry Insurance was established in 1922 by Johanna Berry, Bob’s grandmother. Mrs. Berry was a widow with a large family, and to help support them, she began to act as a “kitchen broker.” This involved handling personal accounts for family and friends from her home. Business was placed through a general agency in Boston.
After Mrs. Berry’s death in 1948, the insurance business passed to her son, Henry G. Berry, Sr. Mr. Berry was a real estate broker and homebuilder. He continued to operate the insurance business in the same manner as his mother from his home.
In 1959, Mr. Berry had an opportunity to purchase a small insurance agency in the Wollaston section of Quincy. This enabled the firm to acquire its first office. The agency was incorporated in 1961 as a Massachusetts corporation, Berry Insurance Agency, Inc.
Mr. Berry’s two sons, Henry Jr. and Bob, joined the agency in the early 1960s. The firm began an aggressive expansion program by purchasing other insurance agencies. This trend would continue over the next twenty years. In total, 24 agencies were purchased.
In 1968, another office was opened in Franklin, Massachusetts. Bob Berry has managed the Franklin office from its inception to the present. A third office was opened in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1978.
