Why You Should Bundle your Personal and Workers’ Comp Nanny Insurance with One Agency

Personal Auto | Individuals & Families | Home Insurance | Workers Compensation

You need a workers’ compensation policy for your nanny and you need it ASAP -- we’ve heard that one before.

Usually when people come to us looking for a nanny insurance workers’ compensation policy it’s because they have already hired a nanny and just learned they need special insurance to cover them.

So if the agent issuing your policy is asking to also quote your personal insurance such as your home and auto, you might be frustrated. Your policies aren’t up for renewal yet, you’re happy with your personal insurance agency -- you probably just want to secure your nanny insurance policy and be done with it.

But let us let you in on a little secret: if your nanny insurance agent is asking to also quote your personal insurance while issuing you a nanny insurance workers’ comp policy, it’s not because they’re trying to get more money from you -- it really is in your best interest. Because when your insurance policies are spread out among more than one agent or carrier, you’re making your life more difficult than it has to be.

But don’t worry, at Berry Insurance, we want to make life easier for you. In our 100 years of business, we’ve been able to help thousands of personal and commercial clients get better coverage and prices by bundling their policies. But whether you bundle all your policies with us, or another agency, it will probably help to make things easier for you, and could even save you some money.

If you aren’t convinced, read on to learn about the benefits to having all of your insurance policy with one agent or carrier.

Why bundle?

You hear it all the time: bundling your personal insurance policies can save you a good amount of money on premium. And that’s usually a good enough reason for most people to want to do it.

But what about bundling your nanny policy with your personal insurance? Do you still get a discount even though your nanny insurance policy is technically a business insurance policy?

Well, no -- not exactly. Or not directly at least.

But there are benefits for you that will make bundling well worth it.

Bundling your nanny and personal policies will save you a lot of time, energy, frustration, and it even could save you some money if you ever did experience a claim. Let’s get into it.

You will avoid gaps in coverage

Insurance is complex. Different types of policies can overlap, so it’s impossible to get a full picture of your coverage without looking at all of your policies.

When working with just one agent who has a broad view of your policies, they can see where you may have either gaps or overlap in coverage. If your agent can only see one policy, they won’t have enough information to protect you by identifying any gaps.

Consider this: Your nanny is working in your home. They are potentially driving your children around. So don’t you think your nanny insurance should work together with your home (or renters or condo) and auto insurance policies?

Your insurance agent should be able to look at the full picture of your nanny and personal insurance policies to make sure you have enough coverage, and aren’t missing any sort of coverages or endorsements that will help your children be safe with your nanny in your home or vehicle.

They may even recommend you get an umbrella insurance policy to mitigate any risks for you, your nanny, and your children. Don’t worry -- this doesn’t mean they’re going to try to upsell you on policies you don’t need. They just want to protect you in any areas you may have gaps or inadequate coverage.

If your agent handling your personal insurance doesn’t know about your nanny situation, they won’t be able to identify these gaps.

The consequences to that? If you ever had a claim, you could potentially be stuck paying thousands out of pocket in areas that your insurance couldn’t cover.

See what we meant about bundling being able to indirectly save you money?

Application/renewal process is quicker

When it comes to the mundane tasks of life, we don’t want them to take up too much of our time.

So we know you want getting or updating your insurance to be quick and easy.

Much of the information you will need to provide for your nanny insurance policy will be the same information you will need to provide for other insurance policies, so if you work with multiple agents, you will be repeating yourself.

If you work with one agent, they will already have all of your information on file, so it will streamline the process when it comes to applying for or renewing your insurance.

You will have one point of contact

Imagine this: you have an insurance claim. Say there is an accident while your nanny is caring for your kids. Your home or vehicle is damaged and your nanny is injured.

Can you tell where we’re going with this?

It’s all one accident, but it involves your workers’ compensation insurance, as well as home and/or auto insurance.

Now you're stuck making phone calls back and forth between your two agencies, relaying claim information, checking back in about the claim settlements, and repeating yourself … over and over again.

It would get pretty confusing and take a lot of extra time if you needed to go through the claims process with more than one agent. It’s the last thing you want to deal with when you are already frustrated and concerned about the claim in the first place.

But it doesn’t even just pertain to claims.

What if you need to make a change to your insurance policy information such as your name, email, address, or phone number? Yup, that means you will have to reach out to all of your agencies rather than making one quick call.

That is simply a waste of time.

By working with one agency you’ll have one name to remember, get to know, and reach out to.

Plus, since you will be talking to them more frequently, they will actually get to know you. They’ll know your story. They’ll know your needs and preferences. They’ll know how you prefer to communicate.

Having someone who knows you well will make your insurance processes so much more pleasant and seamless.

Simplify your insurance and save by working with one company

One of the best ways to reduce stress in life is by simplifying. So why not do that with your insurance policies?

Working with an independent insurance agent who can provide you all the policies you need for your nanny and your personal life (like us at Berry Insurance) will save you time, money, and ensure you have complete protection.

But, if you’re going to work with only one agent, that means you’ll have to put extra care into selecting who to trust with your insurance. Imagine having an incompetent agent handling ALL of your policies? Yikes.
